Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
Roi is very small compared to humans, as he's only 5'2", but his body has matured into that of an adult on a visible scale. Being a "domestic humanoid," it leaves him with a small, but wiry and flexible build.
2. How old is he?
He's 20.
3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch?
He does carry himself well when moving around, but he's prone to slouching when he sits down or relaxes.
4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
He's in peak health, and rarely gets ill. However, he easily becomes ill if he ingests too much of anything that is toxic to cats. He can handle more than a regular cat before getting ill, but too much beyond that could potentially kill him. Fevers, for him, can be hard to diagnose at a glance, since his normal temperature is about 101.5.
5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
He has a natural grace and a strong sense of rhythm. As a cat-man, how could he not? Not that he doesn't have his moments of clumsiness. When he is clumsy, it's along the lines of bumping into doors or other people.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?
Well, one type doesn't fit all, but he's more along the lines of "small and cute." However, due to his years of abuse, he sees himself as a very plain creature, who is "just" this, or "just" that, and nothing worth taking a second look at. Look at his statement about himself as "just a house-cat".
7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
His skin is very clear and pale, though his body is marred from scars along his hips, butt, stomach, and thighs.
8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style.
It is short, silvery-white, and feels like soft fur. It's in a bobbed style in the back, and a little uneven in the front. He has a cowlick around the top, but he likes it that way. Besides, that's what hats and wigs are for.
9. What color are his eyes?
In some light, they look like a vibrant blue, but in actually, they are blue-violet.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
He's got his cat ears and tail. The tail has stronger striping than his ears do. It's mostly only noticeable when he's soaking wet.
11. What are his chief tension centers?
His neck and his shoulders, despite all the petting he gets. His back rarely feels tense, as he tends to take care of that part of himself the most. His ankles and feet are also strong sources of tension.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?
It's very casual - jeans and shirts - although he does have some lacy garments that he is secretly fond of, but rarely wears due to embarrassment.
13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?
He rarely buys clothes that fit snugly - a tail is uncomfortable and hard to hide in tight-fitting pants. He prefers loose clothing because they don't hinder his movement, even when the tail is shoved down one pant-leg. It's also a subconscious expression that he does not really think of himself as attractive.
14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?
He does have a job at his home world, and it's always a very plain uniform.
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
Boxers. Generally very soft cotton, and either one color or in stripes.
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
It's the kind of voice that you might associate with a cat. It's not exactly low, but it's not high or deep. It's just low enough to define his voice as male.
2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?
Unless he's excited, he speaks softly and evenly. He generally speaks easily. If he's excited, he's prone to speaking quickly, and sometimes stumbling over his words.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
None in particular, other than speaking carefully and enunciating. When tired, he's prone to slurring. He used to have a somewhat western accent, but it's been mixed in with the current region he's living in.
4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?
He only knows English, but he can understand cat language as well as that (best when he can see the cat speaking. Body language is important!) He can only speak proper cat while in the shape of a cat. Purring is a universal expression for him of contentment, or used to calm himself or others.
5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
Not really. But when flustered, he every so often says "no" as "nyo" and other similar words that might give a cat-like sound.
6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words?
He is a person that generally tries to consider the weight of his words before speaking. Only things that he knows very well, does he tend to speak more impromptuly.
7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
He's generally eloquent, except when flustered or fearful. When flustered, he tends to speak in a halting way. When fearful, he tends to stutter and lose track of himself.
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?
It's mostly book-smarts. The most he understands of street-smarts is, in his area, when is it safe to wander out at night, and which places are best for hiding without detection.
2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate?
It depends on the situation to which extreme he falls, but he mostly needs a little more time than suave speakers.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
He can follow one line of thought, and that one line can branch to three ways, and then each one branches to two ways, and so on. If allowed, he can actually work through all of those branches of his own accord, but otherwise, he sounds inarticulate. Talking about games makes him especially prone to this.
4. What kind of education has the character had?
He graduated from high school. He is currently in college to get a GED.
5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?
He adores videogames and anything that he can "play with". He currently doesn't know what to do with his life, so thinking about that is on his "to-do" list.
6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert?
That depends on the person he's with. Typically, an introvert. In that way, he tends to not speak unless spoken to first. If he's with known company, he tends to be more open.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
Roi is rather laid-back, but not to the point of laziness. He's prone to some depression and feelings of low self-worth. He's a person that values calm over excitement.
8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
Depending on the demeanor of the person or the showing of the situation, he is generally either relaxed or suspicious. Either way, he is rather quiet.
9. Is he more likely to act, or to react?
React. In general, he perceives some situations as out of his control, and therefore, reaction is his own ability.
10. Which is his default: fight or flight?
Flight. If he can't run, however, he starts to shut down, mentally. Generally, he only fights if pushed to extremes.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
He's guilty of bad puns and "trolling" others over online video games. He can generally appreciate jokes, but bathroom humor makes him disgusted. He is a little bit fond of sexual jokes as well.
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them?
In his defense, they were not brought about by any genetic susceptibility. Possibly PTSD. One kind of gets fucked in the head after enduring a year and a half (and still going) of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse and violation on a semi-regular basis, to the point that any time sex is involved, he freaks out and will eventually shut down if he's put onto all fours. In truth, he doesn't exactly deal with them - he steps around them whenever he can and tries to pretend that he doesn't have that problem. When he can't, he shuts down and can only sit in it until he can regain his composure. Sometimes, this shut-down mode can last for over a week, where he does nothing but sit around and stare into space, or sleep.
In the light of problems, he considers himself the issue, or the source of blame, if he likes the person (or if it's Chris. Because with him, it's ALWAYS his fault.)
13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person?
Not necessarily defined, but being yanked under Chris' hold has definitely changed him from how he used to be, to the point that he often doesn't recall being any other way, or it's very difficult for him to remember.
Meeting Sean helped reinstate some of his confidence, but after his disappearance, that confidence starts to waver.
14. What does he fear?
Chris. He fears that panther like nothing else in the world, even death.
Secondly, he fears being rejected due to the answer in question 16.
Thirdly, tall or large people that give him bad vibes. Unless they're cheerful and smiling, he's prone to thinking that they're bad and are a potential (but not confirmed) threat.
15. What are his hopes or aspirations?
He hopes to be able to escape or stop the bad things in his life, so that he can forge his own path without fear. Until he can do that, he doesn't think any further.
16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?
The full extent of the emotional, physical, and sexual abuse of his ex-boyfriend. He fears that it could happen again if he meets someone else.
But some people can so easily put those fears aside.
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents.
They were originally very close, but due to Roi keeping them out of the loop, they've become a bit distant with each other. They still call every so often.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
He's an only-child.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?
He finds it hard to hate any of his family. While he's not very close to anyone but his parents and grandparents, he does love them all.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?
Sean - the man found him and took him in for some time to help him avoid Chris. Until his disappearance, Roi would climb the fire escape staircase along the apartment wall and enter through the balcony window.
Joshua - they were best friends since they were young, but since moving to Wyoming, they have lost contact.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
That would be Joshua. When they were five, they met at the beach. Roi, sulking because of the irritating salt in the air of the breeze, was eventually pulled out into the water with Joshua. They bonded over the course of the afternoon, and they soon learned that they lived within walking distance of each other. They were inseparable until Roi moved away.
6. Does he have other close friends?
Kathrine. He would have probably dated her despite their 23-year age gap (not that one could easily notice) and the fact that he's more into other men.
7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?
If he tries to get past his introversion, he's very friendly and tends to make friends easily enough.
8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends?
He would be torn - he considers them equally. Can't pick your family, but choosing and keeping good friends is also important.
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once?
Single. Though in a PSL with a certain someone, he considers himself "taken". See 11.
10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
He has no spouse, but... see 11.
11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?
Chris was his first crush. For the-love-hotel, his latest crush is
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
12. What does he look for in a romantic partner?
Someone that he is comfortable with, and they are comfortable with him. That they are open and warm-hearted, and that he can connect with them even if it's not for long. People that don't mind that he's a cat, which includes all of his behavioral quirks and the very real possibility of a shorter life than most humans.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?
No, and frankly, he doesn't know if he wants any. He would want a family, however - even if it's only just made of himself and one other person.
14. Does he have any rivals or enemies?
He thinks of Chris as his enemy. He doesn't care to have rivals.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey scale?
He's a 4 on the Kinsey scale, but he doesn't openly associate as anything.
16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him?
For the most part, he greatly enjoys sex, and it gives him a way to feel attuned to his partner even more. It's an expression of his trust and adoration, to the point that if he is violated during sex, it deeply scars him.
17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
Affection is a BIG turn-on for him. If they are warm, and he can cuddle with them and be close, it magnifies his pleasure in sex by at least two or three times. (Something not magnified would be, say, a one-night-stand in the hotel.) He absolutely hates to be scratched, though he does enjoy having his neck and shoulders bitten. Any manhandling makes him want to kick the person, or hide in terror. As for the bedroom, it's not uncommon for him to cuddle a blanket or pillow if he's alone. If there's a person with him that he knows is there, they will be cuddled - possibly until the limb in question falls numb.
Also, in cat form, he habitually sleeps at the foot of the bed, or across the middle.
If he's not with company, he sleeps anywhere from across the shorter side of his bed with his head (or legs) hanging off, or will sleep diagonally. In winter, blanket and pillow nest. Favors the floor if alone. Will infrequently amass a fort. In summer, if it's warm enough, on a tile or other sort of floor with a hard, cold surface. Will sleep almost naked with nothing but a pillow.
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does he fit type?
He's a Pisces to mostly the letter, with some mild Aries leanings that, currently, have been mostly quashed.
Horse - his past self fit it very well, but currently, not so much. He lacks the spontaneity that he used to indulge in in his younger years - often finding new places and new paths to take in his city. Being confined in a mental way has seriously dampened this. Although it's not his sign, he aligns up best, currently, with the rabbit.
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life?
He doesn't really believe in anything religious, but he does believe in the power and sway of the human spirit, and what it is capable of within the human it resides in. In this way, he believes that there is inherent good in all people - even the ones that do him wrong.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
Just your average code.
4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
Depending on what they are, he's more likely to simply be tolerant or indifferent.
5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them?
In his world, a good amount of humans and wild cats tend to find themselves superior to his sort, the domestics. He feels that he has to be looked up at them to be considered equal.
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
He's mostly comfortable by getting by with what minimum that he can manage. However, over time, he could amass enough to live comfortably.
2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?
He's gone from mostly well-off to sometimes barely making it through weeks, due to his extensive hospital stays whenever Chris gets "inspired."
3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?
He lives in a college dorm with Chris as his hated roommate.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?
Video games and consoles. Always. And the occasional BL manga - with sticky notes and pen.
5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else?
He tends to work retail. It pays well enough that he hasn't yet found another job that he'd enjoy more.
6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time?
Totally gaming. Unless he's reading or studying. He's a fan of action, puzzle, and strategy games.
7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
He's primarily a carnivore. He eats regularly, though sometimes tries to eat many smaller meals during the day since large meals at once don't always sit well. He cannot consume alcohol or anything that is listed as a toxin for cats. In example, however, he can consume very small amounts of nutmeg, but he'll start seeing swirling colors, since nutmeg is a hallucinogen for cats. A small amount of avocado can make him very ill, or even kill him.
